The right to produce a play was sold by the authors agent to two managers, Mr. Daly being ratified by ,tbe author. The second sale was not ratified,, and the Supreme Court virtually accords the ngfiil of production to Mr. Daly by refusing to enjoin bin upon the merits of the case. These rulings are to be submitted to the higher courts. In the meantime, it is doubted whether the rules will bo sustained. . KIESEL & CO., BOWLING ALLEY AND Thb City of Peking, it seems, has been compelled to run the gauntlet of free trade and British inventions. This was constructed in Pennsylvania, and is 1 constructed of American material. She is owned by the Pacific Mail Steamship Company. Tho free trade press, influenced possibly by British ship owners, have had much to say of the bad workmanship, and inferior material entering inlo the construction of the Pennsylvania vessel. A corps of surveyors and engineers who examined the vessel at San Francisco, express 'their surprise that fault should be found with her, the City of Peking being, in their opinion, every way sound and serviceable. They also give a slap at the local inspectors at Hong Kong, and intimate that they are likely under British influence. Their report is a complete vindication of Mr. John Roach, and will do much to reassure the confidence of the American people in the ship builders of the Delaware. 1 J f i I t t It Some fresh mementoes of the visit of Peter the Great to England have recently been discovered in Great Tower street, London.
