Hear lake is a lovely sheet of water filled with choice fish, to say nothing of the Bear lake moaster. In this county are extensive coal fields wailing for the pick and shovel of the miner to bring out the concealed treasures of tho earth. North and east from there is Oneida. count3T, f through the center of which runs the great Malad valley and numerous other valleys as well watered and well situated for irrigating purposes, and is settled up with farmers and flourishing village. At fcjoda Springs is the great Sulphur deposit which is now being utilized and will develop a valuablo industry. 1 the mountains skirting the valleys through the southern 'portion of the county arc found favorable silver prospects and the mining interests are considerable. The northern portion of eastern Idaho is covered with largo forests of timber, and in the western portion are the flourishing settlements of Lunhi county and tho valuable ' gold placers of the viciaity. Along the valley of Snake river, a portion of which is now covered by the reservation, is one of the finest farming countries. Iu the great basin and northwest from this are the great mesas, covered with sago brush and so situated that they can be easily commanded by a canal from the north, thus irrigating the whole country and opening it up for settlement. All this country is separated by a great natural barrier from the rest of Idaho. They have to come here, thus traveling hundreds of miles around, to get to their Land Office. Supreme Court and Capital. Here is their commercial center and outlet, and with us in business and social relations they are identified. Thus within the limits of the proposed Territory are gathered a people united in their political and business in- ' terests and a country surrounded by boundaries placed by nature, enduring as tim itself. It will contain now a population of at least 100,000, composed of tho hardy pioneers of California and , the great basin, the men Western Atlan-- , of the enterprising tic States, tho active, thrifty, business men of the east and the plodding, industrious followers of Brigham containing within themselves all tho elements of success. Tho mountains, concealing in their bosoms great deposits of mineral wealth, the coal fields of the east, the iron mines of the center, the silver of the west and the famous gold placers of tho north, all pouring in the countless wealth to build up prosperity and permanence. Tho hill sides and rocky canyons contain an inexhaustible supply of lumber, and tho mountains hold in re servo and send down to us aa unlimited supply of the purest water for all purposes, while the great agricultural valleys furnish Romes for the grent army of producers. Our whole interests are in common, and are entirely separated. land distinct from the different territories to We call which wo are now attached. upon government to give us a territorial government of our own, that we may Give us this protect our own interests. "voices in piteand we will not raise our ous wai's for special legislation, but will deal with the troublesome questions that We will plant surround us ourselves. nnd foster that higher and nobler Christian civilization which will effectually vipo out and control any of the vilo relics of barbarism peculiar to tho aborigines, brought hero by the scum of European population that has been planted ia this country by the wholesale. Those institutions that cannot bear tho light of reason and triumph by their own truth nnd justice, are not worth having. There is no domestic trouble which will trouble us that the people of Cariboo cannot settle and control in a manner suilod to the progress and enlight-eame- nt of the nineteenth century. What we have written on the resources and needs of this country has been insignificantly done, but every word of it will bear tho test of truth, and our welfare requires our rescue from our present Etato aa dependencies of communities who will do nothing to- - advance our prosperity, but rather take every means to retard our progress. t (s' , ' , tfiscuuetrjs.
