It must be that people do not understand the law. if they did, instead of the county court having to beg parties to accept of an appointment the citizens of the various towns in the county would be asking to have the appoin tments made. News From Mexico. (From El Progress, Mexico.) Charles Whipple of Colonia Juares, State of Chihuahua, Mexico, spent a He part of this week in Torreon. came here to put the famous fruits of his section in the Torreon markets and while in the city? made arrangements with tbe Torreon mercantile company to handle them in large quantities. Mr. Whipple talks very entertain- ingly of the big fruit development made by the Mormons in the State of Chihuahua. Twenty years ago the first Mormon settlers went there and since then they have converted a desert into blooming orchards, and acres have been made to give forth fruit in abundance. It is said the apples, peaches, pears and grapes are superior to the California varieties. The transformation has been made by irrigation and labor. The water comes from a stream, a small river, and is carried in ditches to the various colonies; there intelligently util-zeto the best advantage. Torreon Enterprise. Mr. Alfred Baker of Cbiucbupa was here tbe first of the week with the prize baby of the colon ies. It is as pretty as a picture and weighs 17 pounds. It takes a good Baker to produce euch a big loaf. The Mexican Herald states that tbe State of Chicbuabua leads in irriga- - j tion in this republic. It could add that the finest results in irrigation are d ket. NOTICE FOR PUBLICATION.
