Joyce Pierce, Nursing Director for SEUDHD is encour- aging those individuals that have chronic health conditions such as diabetes or asthma to get their shots as soon as possible. Those people often feel healthy, so they dont consider themselves in the high-ris- k categories, states Pierce. The high-ris- k categories have now been expanded. The updated priority groups in- clude: Adults 4 years old Providers of essential community services, such as police officers, firefighters, EMTs and teachers (new) Caregivers of those with 50-6- chronic illnesses, such as cancer or severely weakened immune systems Children 6 months to 23 months of age Adults age 65 and older Persons 2 years to 64 years with chronic medical conditions All women who will be pregnant during flu season Health care workers providing direct patient care Children 6 months to 18 aspiyears of age on long-term rin therapy Home sales ... The Daniels Fund just awarded a $40,000 grant to Four Comers School of Outdoor Education, based in Monticello, for their Canyon Country Youth Corps program. CCYC is an employment, education, and leadership program for 3 year old youth from Red Mesa, Kayenta, Whitehorse, Monument Valley, Shiprock, Navajo Mountain, Monticello, and Blanding high schools. CCYC works in partnership with San Juan, Red Mesa, Shiprock, and Kayenta School Districts; BLM; U.S. Forest Service; NPS, the College of Eastern Utah, and Workforce Services. During the calendar year CCYC operates five work School, over 26 after school clubs began in October. New this year was the addition of several multicultural clubs. The after-schoclub idea began last year through the inspiration of and organization by H.M.K. Principal Margaret Hopkin. She had three goals in mind. The first ol was to provide viable activities for the students after the school day was over.
