She was bom June 3, 1918 ih Marshall, Mo., to John and Elizabeth Craig. She had one sister and three brothers; Dorothy, John and Robert preceded her in death. Uncle Jim and Rose are surviving in Florida. Her best friend, Roseland Denham survives her in Redlands, Calif. Growing up on the vaudeville stage, tutored by the burlesque dancers, she danced and sang with her comedian father before she went to kindergarten. She was an acrobat and comedian, knew no strangers, and her entertaining antics gave us our very own Lucille Ball, complete with bright hair, style appropriate for the times, and smiling red lips. She grew up in Rock Island, 111., graduated from high school and attended business school. She married H. B. (Pete) Peterson, had two daughters, Vicki (Chuck) Ferrero of Price, and Sheila (Jerry) Bittle, Salt Lake City. They divorced, remaining good friends. She married J. L. Mealey who took her on a loving adventure to Cisco, Utah where many will remember and cherish the J & M Cafe. Stories there are humorous and sometimes downright outrageous, like the time Maxine raised her shotgun at a truck driver, demanding, friend or foe? J. passed away in 1968, giving Sherman Holbrook a few years to enjoy her before his death. Then came Ballard Harris. He courted her and wooed her back to Cisco and the Dewey Bridge.
