Beautiful represents Zuni objects of cultural significance, collected over a period by Jim Ostler and Liza Doran of Cow Canyon Trading Post in Bluff, Utah. All of the works displayed are by contemporary Zuni artists. Jim Ostler resided in Zuni from 1983 - 1994, where he ran an arts and crafts enterprise for the tribe. Zuni migration stories include the Four Corners Region as one of the areas where the people lived before settling in itiwanna, the center place. The present population is about 8,500. The Zuni language is an isolate, considerably different from that of the other pueblos. At the time of Spanish contact, Zuni comprised six villages. Prehistorically, Zuni was located at the intersection between the Mogollon and prehistoric Puebloan (Anasazi) cultures.
