Fire strikes anytime we let our guard down when we don't attend to keeping areas clean and orderly; when we're sleeping and don't have proper sounding devices such as smoke detectors; or when we take shortcuts with electrical equipment or store flammables improperly. Take a few minutes and do a walk through inspection of your home. Be objective about storing flammables, and check heating devices, electrical equipment and circuits. Think about combustible materials that are stored too close to water heaters and furnaces. Repair electrical outlets and cords that are unserviceable. Babbitt Commander, Air Force Materiel Command Labor Day marked the conclusion of the 1999 "101 Critical Days" campaign. Dur- ing this year's campaign there were 18 Air Force fatalities - the lowest on record, but still far too many. Air Force Materiel Command did not experience any fatalities, and I commend the men and women throughout the command for this signif icant achievement. The "101 Critical Days" campaign focused on activities that traditionally have claimed lives during the summer months. Despite additional emphasis on risk management at all echelons, the Air Force still lost 15 mishaps irreplaceable people to y this summer. In spite of these tragic losses the Air Force is making progress; the number of alcohol related deaths decreased 33 percent. member of a Defense yI'm Information Systems Agency federal at Hill employee. I've talked to security officials who have told me that since my wife is a DISA employee instead of an Air Force employee I'm not allowed a dependent ID card. This is a real problem, since my wife occasionally goes TDY and I have to pick up my children from the daycare center on base. What can be done to remedy this situation? I To remedy the situation, have your spouse type on official letterhead, endorsed by her section chief, stating there is a need for you to come on base for the reasons stated in your question. Both of you then take the letter to the clerks at Pass and Registration, Bldg. 1219. They will issue a one-yevisitor pass (AF Form 75) , allowing you base access when your spouse can't accompany you. While Hill AFB has increased security measures, our main focus is to protect the Hill community and not make life tougher. -- 4 a letter ar on-the-j- gate Elementary .With the increase in security, I m con cerned that the gate between Hill Field Elementary school and base housing is left wide open.
