Monday, Hamburgers, The youth group of St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church is holding their third annual fall carnival. It will be held in the meeting hall behind the Catholic Church, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday the 14th. In the past this carnival has been very profitable of the Catholic youth and the major fund-raisfor their activities. This year there will be games as usual and prizes for the kids, food and drink will also be served with a "cake walk" running CITIZENS OF GRAND COUNTY years ago was elected to be a responsible Commissioner for Grand County. am writing this not to tell you how to vote, but feel responsible to make you aware of some concerns regarding the proposed change of government. Two I I I IS THE PROPOSED CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT REALLY GOING TO COST LESS? True, paying seven people less than what the present three commissioners are paid is a re duction in cost. BUT, understand that you will likely be voting for an administrator form of government. While the committees stresses that an administrator is optional, Cache County (an example used by the committee) has an administrator and manager with a budget of about $80,000. This would not be government at less cost! er periodically throughout the afternoon. Last year, the "pie in the face" was a big money maker, this year they hope to make just as much with their latest victim Ben Bird. The Catholic youth group hopes that this will become a Moab tradition and look forward to bigger and better Fall Fun Carnivals in the WILL EACH CITIZEN BE BETTER REPRESENTED WITH THIS CHANGE? course not. With the change, each citizen will only vote for three of the seven commis sioners instead of ALL commissioners. As for better representation, who will represent Grand County at state and regional meetings? Only one commissioner? Or maybe the administrator? Most important issues that will impact Grand Countys future are decided in Salt Lake City. Is it better representation to send only one person? In the present form of government a majority is sent to represent the county, as it should be. If the new form of government sends a majority (as it should) then the travel costs will be considerably in creased. Of years to come. SCORE: BURNS 2,000, GRAHAM O Before being led off into never never world by misleading statements regarding the Utah Attorney General's race, let's get a few things straight: BETTER GOVERNMENT? EXPERIENCE Jan Graham has NEVER tried a single criminal case Scott Bums has successfully prosecuted over 2,000 criminal cases What kind of experience does Jan Graham have? As a top manager in the current General's Office, she has WASTED millions of taxpayer dollars by hiring expensive downtown law firms to defend cases that SHOULD have been handled We can do without THAT kind of experience Can we take the chance of bogging down statefederal government relations with more Grand County government to work with? Nonpartisan, at that. Or will an administrator handle the issues and meetings, resulting in a one person representation? At-tome- ry se. WIIO SUPPORTS SCOTT BURNS? 25 of Utah's 29 sheriffs Over 80 of Utah's police chiefs All 21 Republican county attorneys in the state WIIO SUPPORTS JAN GRAHAM? Expensive downtown law firms Law enforcement authorities have worked with Scott Bums, they know experience when they see it and they know he will be tough on crime. For experience that really counts weeks ago, at a League of Women Voters forum, Norm Shrewsbury (committee representative) said that if anything in their plan goes against the Utah State Constitution they will change this AFTER the new government is put in place. It is a bit unsettling to think that the committee did not know all of the pertinent facts before they put the new form of government on the ballot. A few What else might be wrong with their plan???? ARE CONSIDERING A CHANGE, WHY NOT ALLOW A LITTLE MORE TIME TO WORK OUT THE DETAILS AND BE CERTAIN THE PLAN IS CONSTITUTIONALLY CORRECT AND COST EFFECTIVE? IF YOU Please be sure to get out and vote next Tuesday!!! Thank you for taking the time to read this. Sincerely, & Integrity in office you can be proud of Manuel Torres Grand County Commissioner ON NOVEMBER 3RD VOTE SCOTT BURNS Republican candidate for Attorney General Paid for by the Committee to elect Scott Burna, Honorary Chair, Governor Norm Bangerter, Mike Stewart, and Salt Lake County Sheriff Aaron Kennard, (Paid Advertisement) |
