It's a force of nearly 3 million girls and adults who make a collective impact on our lives in ways only Girl Scouts can. Going and growing, yet constant as a positive influence on the lives of girls and young women, Girl Scouting imparts values and encouragement that last a lifetime. Look at the outstanding women who have been and growing Girl Scout part of the movement in our communities. See the women of tomorrow, who are being nourished to take their roles as full citizens of the nation and the world. Nevermind, onward and upward. I tossed the camera bag up and scrambled up to the next ledge, where the aforementioned ankle insisted it was time for a break. From there on up, the trip was a breeze, provided I kept an eye out for loose rocks lying in wait for my right foot. Sure enough, there was a brand new Renault parked, on a ledge, overlooking the canyon and the Colorado River in the distance. Nice place to park. The scene seemed all the more incongruous for the lack of people: just me, the arch and this car. It made me wish another hiker would show up, while I was standing next to the Renault. "Gee, that was a tough drive. I was afraid Id scratch the paint. Shook up all the beer in the cooler too. Say, do you have a map? I thought I was on the road to Dead Horse Point, but I havent seen much traffic." Mission accomplished and I headed back down, picking up a piece of loose electrical wire I found near the arch. Got to keep the canyons clean. That wire sure turned out to be useful. Halfway down the small cliff, my ankle decided it had had enough and quit altogether. I lowered the camera bag with the wire, then myself, using a small juniper for a belay. Once I had eased that useless appendage back down to relatively firm ground, the day looked a good deal brighter. A half-hoof spirited limping and I was back at the car. Once my ankle decides that throbbing is a waste of time, Im going to head back to Corona Arch with a picnic lunch. Definitely a lovely canyon. In the meantime, anyone who asks How was your day? is going to get an earful. |
