Times-lndependen- Thursday, Jan. 26, 1989 t, taking over Operations on Lake Powell ARA Services ARA Services has acquired the rights to operate recreational facilities on Lake Powell, the 186-mie lake in Northern long, Arizona and Southern Utah has become one of the nation's most beautiful vacation attractions. ARA purchased the operation from Del Webb Recreational Properties, Inc. for $70 million. Last year, it generated revenues of $44 million and employs about 1,000 at the height of the season. The purchase included five marinas on'Lfeke Powell, Wahweap, Bullfrog, Hall's Crossing, Hite and DanWilderness River gling Rope-an- d Adventures, operator of whitewater raft trips through Grand Canyon National Park. Also included are facilities with le man-mad- -- 370 lodging units, 300 rafts and powerboats, 1,400 boat slips and buoys, several restaurants, general stores, gift shops and RV parks as well as auto and boat service sta- tions. ARA's fleet also includes more than 300 houseboats (sleeping from 6 to 12) which makes it the largest operator of houseboats on any lake.
