The Utah League of Women Voters and KUED Channel 7 are presenting a series of six debates on national security and foreign policy. Of particular interest to Grand County voters is the debate scheduled for the Third Congressional District on October 8 at 9 p.m. The local League will be studying the debate issues at the upcoming Saturday meeting so that interested persons may become more informed 13. The meeting is being held from 10 a.m. to noon at Arches Dining Room and anyone of voting age is welcome to attend. Following the traditional summer hiatus, the League is ready to swing into action for the upcoming elections, according to League President Cynthia Smith. Fence proposal comments sought on BLM areas A livestock boundary fence is proposed for construction within the Flume Canyon Wilderness Study Area ( WSA in eastern Grand County. The fence would be approximately 1250 in length within the WSA, and extend out of the WSA on the first bench of the Bookcliffs. The location is just west of the Westwater drainage (T 18S., R24E., Sec 17). Comments will be received On a draft environmental assessment of the proposal until September 29, 1986. The League of Women Voters was formed on the national level 63 years ago, when women received the right to vote. The chapter made plans to provide a concession stand at the San RaFel Mail Run which will be hosted by the Path Finders from Price on September 13 and 14. Chairman of this event will be Sandi Silliman. The chapter will also be having their annual concession stand and float for the Melon Days Celebration on September 20th. Judy Ann Scott, Chairman of the Concession Stand says they will have their usual hamburgers, hotdogs, soda pop and famous baked potatoes. ATTENDS LEADERSHIP SEM. Three members from Beta Zeta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha recently travelled to Ogden where they attended the State Leadership Seminar for the Utah State Council of ESA. The seminar was hosted at the Radisson Hotel in Ogden by Becky Wright, President of the Council and her chapter members!' The seminar included speaker Kim Peterson on stress and how it can effect your life depending on how you handle the stress. There were also various State Officers who presented a short workshop on each of their offices and the requirements for performing that office efficiently. There were approximately fifty members from throughout the state in attendance. Those members from Beta Zeta attending were: Carol Ekker, Judy Ann Scott and Sandi Silliman. Carol Ekker is chairman of the float activities and they will begin working on the float in the near future so they can have it done well in advance of the parade. There was some preliminary planning of holding the 3rd annual St. in early October. Jude will have chairman Cathy Gardner, more information in regard to event soon. The chapter will be hosting the State Convention this year in Price at the Radisson. They began making plans for the various functions during that convention as far as decoration, reservations, etc. Judy Ann Scott will be chairman of this event and Sandi Silliman will be Bike-A-Th- handling registration.
