Your Craft Supermarket The editors of The were presented with something of a dilemma on New Years Day this year regarding the awarding of the 1986 New Years Baby contest winner. There was a New Years baby, but he did not conform to all the rules laid forth for the contest in that his parents are not residents of Grand County. This being the case, the contest was extended until a baby arrives consistent to all the contest families. money. Club business was conducted and then Mrs. Pool introduced Carol Yee, junior at G.C.H.S. who the club sponsored in 1985 to the Hugh Bigler study funding withdrawn, victim of budget axe Craig Bigler, an economic analyst who has been assigned to Moab and Grand County for a year to work up a plan for economic revitalization, funded primarily by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, told Moab Rotarians Monday that his program had been discontinued in a round of Washington budget cuts two weeks ago, and that he would only be formally funded for thirty more days. The liklihood that the program can be funded at the state level is also dim, he said, due to a budget shortfall facing the upcoming session of the Utah Legislature. Mr. Bigler stated that all support, physically and financially, for his program to continue would probably have to come from within the local area or community. Mr. Biglers draft report was completed last week, and is being published in four installments in The beginning this week, and leading up to a community town meeting the last week in January, where public input will be sought. He stated that he would remain in Moab during the month of January, and participate in the town meeting, and was hopeful that some means of continuing the program to' comple-tio-n might be found. Moab City Police investigated an early morning accident on New Years day which caused only minor injuries, but considerable damage to a vehicle. Officers were called to Walnut Lane to investigate an accident involving Jeaning Prowse, 37, of Moab, driving a 1977 Toyota Celica. The driver told officers that the vehicle drifted to the right as she was traveling east on Walnut Lane at 3:33 a.m., and struck a utility pole. $800 in damage was listed on the Celica, and $100 to the utility pole. The driver was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital by Grand County Ambulance crews, where she was treated and released. She was cited for driving an unsafe vehicle, according to Cpl. Scott Mallon. Later the same day, at 6:15 a.m., Ms. Prowse reported that a 1976 Chevrolet pickup had been stolen from her home at 632 Rosetree Lane. The vehicle was recovered shortly thereafter by police, around the corner from the residence. arrival of this 7 pound 15 ounce baby was Dr. Don Marquardt. This mother was expected to give birth prematurely, and Air Life was called out from St. Marys Hospital. Unable to land before daylight because of fog and haze, the helicopter returned later and transferred the mother to Grand Junction. Resolution of this story was not known as of press time.
