He was bom May 20, 1903, in Paradise, Cache ' County, , to Edwin and Zelda Ann Shipley Summers, the third of ten children. As a young person he assisted his father with the sheep operation of his familys farm. He graduated from - Carol Hines South Cache High School in 1923 and continued his education at what is now Utah State University from 1923 to 1925, and in March of Dimes, Heart, thereafter served and LDS and Cancer, Arthritis, Primary Childrens fund raising drives. She has been a club leader, involved in Boy Scouts, and has been cookie chairman and .leader of Girl Scouts. A member of the LDS Church all her life, Carol taught Primary for 40 years. She also taught Mutual, and for 20 years was a Sunday School teacher. She was president of Relief Society for 2 years and this year is Mother Education leader in that organization. In addition, she is a past president of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Carol is the daughter of Her Howard Balsley. BalsTrout Jessie mother, ley, died many years ago. Carol and Bill have adopted 9 children, 8 of them still living. They Carol Hines named Moabs Clubwoman of the Year Mrs. William (Carol Balsley) Hines was chosen local Club Woman of the Year by the Moab Womens Literary Club and will be honored at the district Convention, April 12, in Green River. Carol has been a member of the club and federation for over 38 years. She was president in 1950-5- 1 and has held all the offices through the years, presently serving as secretary. She has served as chairman of the committees: following home life, public affairs, fine arts, conservation, education, and international affairs. She served as hostess to the birthday party in March, the membership tea in September and the installation tea in May. In the state district, Carol held the office of district chairman for 2 years in the education and home life HOUSEWARE 4--H have had 12 foster children and several welfare children. departments. He was also a member of the executive board of the Utah Cattlemens Association and the forest advisory boards in Colorado, where he ran cattle on summer range. He was a member of the Civic Club and Lions Club in addition. He received an award in from the Utah Cattleman's Association and was still actively engaged in ranching up to the time of his death. He is survived by his wife; 5 children: Mrs. Dean L. (Lou Jean) Robinson, Monticello, Mrs. Arthur V. (Helen Marie) Redd, Kemmerer, Wyo., Mrs. Robert H. (Elizabeth Ann) Bessemer, Ala., Kenneth Kelly Summers, Grand Junction, Co., and Mrs. Arlin V.
