WELCOME CHURCH GROUPS Good Service - Fine Food 182 S. Main Moab 259-714- 1 Ignorance has always been one of the chief enemies of faith. Ignorance thrives on falsehood on untruth, rather then on truth; upon the imaginary, rather than the real. Paul wisely said, Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. I Cor. 12:1. Receiving Something False some persons issue warnings that one should not seek for the Occasionally in the Baptism Spirit, because of the supposed danger of receiving the blessings from Satan instead of from God. Some send up a danger signal about what might happen when the seeker places himself in the state of passivity thought necessary to receive the Holy Spirit. (Who ever originated such nonsense that there is anything passive about receiving the Holy Spirit?) "Be sure you get the real thing, others caution, thereby filling the candidate with fear that he may receive a false baptism. Such arguments are actually an wccngatinn against God, presenting Him as much less loving than a natural parent. Instead, we have the assurance of Jesus that if we ask the Father for the Holy Spirit, never, never, never will He foist upon us, or permit us to be given, either a substitute or a counterfeit. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Ask, and it shall be given you, for Spirit to them that ask Him? Luke 11:11-111:9-1Ask for the Holy Spirit - receive Luke receiveth. that asketh everyone the Holy Spirit. Getting In the Flesh While the Satan theory is propagated by opposers of Pentecostal experience and truth, the flesh theory is supported mainly by uninformed or persons who sincerely desire to receive the Spirit, or to help others receive. It seems that some feel if one is aware he is speaking with tongues, it must be the flesh. This possibly has arisen from the idea that one is baptized with the Spirit while in a trance or unconscious state. Though this may have happened to some, there is no Bible record of any such cases. Nor is there any warning in the Bible about the hideous ogre of getting in the flesh while receiving the Holy Ghost. Actually, without the cooperation of the flesh it is impossible to receive the Holy Spirit Baptism. I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh. Joel 2:28. When Christ baptizes you in the Holy Ghost it is your voice that is heard; it is your lips, your tongue, your vocal organs that speak. They were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and (they) began to speak with other tongues, Acts 2:4. They, not the Holy Ghost, spoke in tongues. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, I Cor. 14:32. Obviously, one is able to choose, or refuse, to speak with tongues. Then what is the part of the Holy Spirit? Guidance. He tells one what to say. In ordinary speech, the mind guides the organs of speech, bringing forth that which one has learned by experience. In speaking with tongues, the Holy Spirit supersedes experience, or even lack of it, and guides one in speaking that which is natural, but supernatural. The Spirit will suggest, recommend, advise, instruct, direct, urge. The Spirits part is to lead, ours is to follow. Our part is the act of speaking. His is the kind of speech. The Spirit suggests the words. We speak them. Consider again Pauls request that prayer be offered, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly Eph. 6:19. God might give Paul the utterance, the words to say, but it would still be necessary for Paul to open his mouth and boldly do the speaking. All speech has two distinct features: 1) The forming of words on lips and tongue, and 2) Giving sound to the words. In natural speech man controls both. In supernatural speech the Spirit controls the first, and man the second. speaking. The supernatural Speaking in tongues is supematurally-guide- d element is in what the person says. It is the Holy Spirit speaking and it is the person himself speaking. How can this be? Examine a parallel experience in Mark 13:11, Whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye; for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. by David E. ORDER AND NOTICE OF , CONTINUED HEARING By the Commission: The above-entitlmatter came on for hearing before the Public Service Commission of Utah on Wednesday, the 24th day of January, 1979, at which time the Company presented its case. Subsequent to that time, it has become necessary to continue the matter to a later date.
