But deciding how to take money out of your investments can be just as important. Should you take it all in a lump sum, withdraw a fixed amount each year or base withdrawals on the investment's value? The method you choose may depend on tax considerations, regulations pertaining to IRA withdrawals, your age and your income needs. With mutual funds you'll also want to consider the fund's investment objective. Different types of funds lend themselves to different methods of withdrawal. Following are four ways to take withdrawals from mutual funds, along with an example illustrating how each option affects the amount withdrawn and the ending account bal ance. Taking dividends in cash typi cally means you get a check every Steven three months. These checks will vary as the dividends go up and e down. funds, balanced funds and income funds are d for cash dividend payments. Growth funds, on the other hand, typically pay small dividends and therefore are generally not best for this method of withdrawal.
