This can be good ("Young Frankenstein"), or this can be bad ("Spaceballs"). In the case of "Robin Hood: Men in Tights." this is worse. Actually, "Men in Tights" is probably no worse than '"Space-balls,- " but while one mistake be an accident, two is a might trend, and Brooks' formula just isn't funny anymore. One wonders if he's even trying, given the abundance of recycled material here. The plot is never a problem he simply borrows the story from some other film. Given the nature of spoofs, that's understandable. Yet even the gaus seem borrowed off-be- t too much of the time even if he is borrowing from himself. The story roughly follows the recent Kevin Costner version of Robin Hood; a fact that provides one of the best lines in the show (if you haven't already heard it in the advertisements). There are also numerous references to a multitude of other popular films, including "Home Alone," "J.F.K." and "Malcolm X." Cary Elwes, in a cross between Errol Flynn and his own "Princess Bride" character, plays Robin of Loxley. Richard Lewis is the cowardly Prince John, with Roger Rees (best as the known from Sheriff and Amy Yasbeck ("ProblChild") as Maid Marian. As demonstrated in "Princess Bride," Elwes makes a appropriately dashing type who can handle pretty face. Fairing much better are Roger Rees and Mark Blankfield. The Utah Baroque Ensemble was formed in 1988 as a community-based choir which specializes in early sacred music.
