Show Friday, December 7, DAILY HERALD 2007 2007 ALL-VALL- C7 PLAYER OF THE YEAR EY 7 Laycock Continued from CI Now you may have a tiny bit of trouble deciding what you're going to go with, but you know it doesn't matter all that much because it's all going to be spectacular. Such were the choices for Lone Peak senior setter Lacey Laycock whenever she got a pass from Kylie Heaps, Anna Burgess or Heather Hennemann. With excellent outside hitters like Faith Tusieseina, Aubrey Muaina, Lacey Cramer and Cari Shumway, as well as middles like Hillary Olsen and Ashton Gray, the choices were tantalizing. V "I loved it," Laycock said. "That (the many options) allowed me to see where the other team was playing and' go against it, while knowing it would go to an amazing hitter."-.-. But as the setter, Laycock was the catalyst for the success the Knights enjoyed on their way to the 5A state title. For her ability to run the Lone Peak offense to perfection as well as her devastating serve and strong defensive skills the Daily Herald is pleased to name Laycock the 2007 Utah Valley high school volleyball player of the year. "She's been so successful because of the people that surrounded her," said Knight head coach Deanna Meyer. "But she is also a player that never got flustered, one that has a drive and will to win, who always wants to do her best. She's been so consistent for us and is constantly trying to improve." The senior said the announcement of the award brought plenty of excitement to the Laycock household. l was so excited but when I told my dad, I think he was even more excited than I was, if that was possible," she said. Laycock said the recognition is just another addition to what has been an amazing year on the volleyball court for her. "It has been so much fun," she said. "It's the funnest year I've ever had and as a senior, it's been a great year to end on. Our team worked together really well and the girls were so great." Meyer said that Laycock really stepped forward to take her game to another level for the Knights in 2007. "She knows she has room to grow and that's why she was a better player this year than last," the Lone Peak head coach said. "She.worked hard to get better on defense and with her serve, and it showed." One of the defining moments of the season came on Oct. 2 against American Fork, when mances in state history.
