Show Saturday. December HERALD DAILY 2007 1, C5 PLEASANT GROVE BASKETBALL PREVIEW 2007-0- 8 Pleasant Grove boys looking lor another exciting year Beky Beaton To borrow a local eighth graders, they were already pretty good. Throw in our returning juniors, and this could be a special year. I've really been looking for- state, just like last year. The other Region 4 teams could also be very competitive, and the league is once again expected to be one of the classification's strongest. That adds up to a fun and fascinating season for the fanatic Viking faithful. "This is a real exciting year for me," said coach Randy McAllister, "When I saw this senior group as HERALD DAILY sportscast-er"- s trademark phrase Pleasant Grove boys basketball fans, buckle up. If you thought last year's border wars wereiun, just wait until the 2008 version. ; The Vikings and neighbor Lone Peak figure to be two of the top 5A teams in the ward to it." There are plenty of sound reasons for the coach's optimism, beginning with four returning starters. Senior guard Craig Tucker is a four-yevarsity player. "It's fun to have a guy like him come back," the coach said. "I expect huge leadership from him. He under-stand- s what I'm looking for." Another senior guard, Brady Thurgood, is probably the team's next leader after Tucker. "His fatigue level never shows," McAllister explained. "He's always going 100 miles per hour. He's developed a better outside shot, so he'll be difficult to guard." Junior point guard LeSean Wilcox also returns. "He's really improved his shot, which will make him a real weapon at the point," the coach said. "He has real good talent around him, and he knows how to make plays." The other half of the junior tandem is wing CJ Wilcox. "I think he'll be the best player in the state this year," the coach said. "He's going to rise to a level people haven't seen before. He's aphenom-ena- l shooter, but he's im- ' proved on other things." The one lost player who won'fTje replaced is Tallon Robertson. "Maybe two of our guys will take care of what he used to do for us," McAllister said. ar Pleasant Grove Boys Basketball I Head Coach: Randy McAllister 1 2006-0season: 16-- (&4) I Lost to state finalist Riverton 7 6 Post-Seaso- 62-4- 8 in 5A first round. The other senior guard that the coach is looking for big contributions from is Jared Allridge. "He's the second-quickekid on the team," McAllister said. "He's an exceptional slasher and driver. He'll be our defensive stopper, the guy who will take on the other team's best player." Also on the varsity squad are seniors Andy Schleitwiler and Lance Adamson; juniors , One of those will be senior Adam Nielson. "He had a pretty good football season, and that did a lot for his confidence," the coach said. "He has a nice jump shot, but we'll need him to rebound and do some of the dirty work down low for us." Sophomore Sef a Tanoai will also handle some post duties. "He moves well for his size," McAllister said, "He has great hands. He can score inside or f r, Zach Alder, Aaron Jason Gassman, Curtis Harding and Marshall Nielson; and sophomores Dallas Lloyd, Calder Bonnett and Bryce Walker. We just have to aim high and do what it takes." The squad that will represent Hi IIIthe school this year has some size, some shooters, some experiV ence and some speed, but with a lot of new players, the team is stai a work in progress. Larson has three returning starters, all seniors. "Whitney Giles and Krystal Carter are both excellent shooters," the coach said. "Krystal will rotate some between the guard positions.
