Laycock took the reigns from Dr. Glenn Williams in September 1978 with a goal to instill more in commitment and symphony members "so they could be more indepenedent musically and then could contribute more to the orchestra." Over the past 12 years, the increased commitment and individual dedication have led to a more sophisticated repertoire and a higher level of performance for the orchestra as a whole, Laycock said. BYU The audience has increased also. The past three years, capacity audiences for the season's five concerts have spilled over into two performances each for the popular Christmas concert and Jajiuary youth artists concert. Noting that several members started taking private music lessons again, Laycock said it was gratifying to see them take their individual responsibilities so seriously. "I have great respect for members of the orchestra and the audience, and a great appreciation for the experience of growth we've had together." George Dyer will perform as part of the Provo Community Chamber Music Series on Monday, Feb. 19, 7 p.m. at the Provo tabernacle.
