The symphony will be in town Monday to present its classical pops concert at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre in Orem. The music starts at 8 p.m. and will feature lively arrangements by composers such as Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi and Rachmaninoff. "This is the everyman's concert," said Scott CNeil, associate conductor for the symphony. "Come as you are, wear what you want and be prepared for a fun, lightheart-e- d evening." "People might say, 'Well, I've never heard that,' but they recognize it once they hear it," he said. "Frankly, this is music that has been made popular by 'Looney Toons' and 'Bugs Bunny.' " Recognizable melodies the Symphony will perform include "Summer" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons, "Overture to the Bartered Bride" by Smetana and Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake." The concert also will feature violinist David Park. Park be- gan playing violin at age 5 in Seoul, Korea, and has received degrees from the University of Utah and the Juilliard School -- in New York City. He also is an assistant concertmaster of the Utah Symphony. "David is a fantastic soloist," CNeil said. "We're excited to have him along." Monday's concert marks the third year in a row that the Utah Symphony has made the trek from Salt Lake City to perform at the SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre. Audience turnout has con- sistently increased over the years, and SCERA officials expect the same response for this concert. "The Utah Symphony is well known, and we don't get to hear them very often here in Utah Valley," said Adam Robertson, CEO of the SCERA. "There is a demand for classical music here, and the neat atmosphere in the Shell under the stars draws people in."
