Feminists see the comments and pornography as degrading. But both the speech and pornography are protected by the U.S. Constitution, she said. "We can't stop pornography any more than we can President Benson because it is still political speech," she said. Pornography is a difficult issue for feminists as well as for many other groups, Knauer said. The conflict in the feminist movement includes two primary groups that Knauer termed radical-cultural feminists and liberal- - socialists. "The radical feminists are she said. "They believe women are different than men, better and more sensitive" The liberal feminists usually believe "men and women are the same even though they have different bodies." The radical argument was espoused by attorneys Andrea Dwor-ki- n and Catherine McKinnon, who laws developed that have been struck down in Indiana as unconstitutional. The law would have allowed tims vic- d violence to bring lawsuits against firms that of sex-relate- distribute pornography provided the victims can demonstrate that the attacker was incited by the material. But a causal connection between violence and pornography hasn't been established, For instance, Japan has much pornography but little violence of any kind, Knauer said. "It may be the causes of vio- lence against women are far widpr," she said. "We have a violent society where might is right. ...
