The conference, part of the Governor's Conference on Economic Development, drew hundreds of people from throughout the state to the Westin Hotel Utah. Utah Travel Council director Jay C. Woolley told the group that creating a hospitality that everyone in the industry could relate to is most important in attracting tourism. "We are conducting seminars throughout the state to help people see how important it is lor everyone in the area to work to promote tourism," he said. He cited the case of a gas station attendant interested tourists passing through Cedar City to stop and attend the Shakespearean Festival and to see the tourist sites in that area. R. Kent Moon, director of the Salt Lake City District Office of the Small Business administration, said SBA is primarily interested in long-terfinancing. In Utah. SBA guaranteed loans represent more than 50 percent of all long-terfinancing. Approximately 98 percent of Utah's businesses are small, he said. He reported that there is no correlation between the number of businesses an area has and the amount of tourism it attracts. Of Utah's nine tourism regions, the breakdown is as follows: 17 percent of the Golden Spike businesses, 22.4 percent of the tourism. 3.4 percent busiBridgerland ness. 4 percent tourism. 1 According to the report, officers responded to the hall alter someone complained that tempers were exflaring and words were being changed in an apparent discussion about the union. Officers took the man home when they discovered his vehicle had a flat tire. Another officer later discovered that the man's truck tires had been slashed when thev checked his home. obituary By LEANN MOODY Spanish Fork Corresondent - Wednesday they could accept four NI.W YORK ' U'i - Michael Burke. His grandfather, who died two years ago, had seven wives and 32 children. "He was the last of the big chiefs," Kze said. "My dad is pretty much of a modern man lie has one wile and they are both very well educated." Kze's dad, a doctor by profession, became chief of the tribe last year. Kze's dad goes home to the village every couple weeks to listen to the troubles of his people, who often come to him for advice. "He goes to the village and sits on his throne and people speak to him about their problems. They ask him for advice. They set up appointments to visit him. It's the big thing to do, to visit with him. They take him things like sheep, goats and cows." Although the tribal kings aren't formal representatives of the military government that controls the country, Eze said the tribal leaders still have great influence over their people. He said the military rulers often ask the tribal leaders to explain new policies to the members of the tribes.
