Hollway, 32, whose father, Bob. used to be head coach of the St. Louis Cardinals and is now an assistant with the Minnesota Vikings, says he won't be satisfied merely to end the losing string. "We're not just looking for one victory," he said. "We're looking for successive victories and a championship. If we win the first game this year, that will just be one down and nine to go. We're going to play to win them all." In Hollway's first season at Marietta last year, he began with 88 players and finished with 38. He required dedication to the program and 50 players decided they weren't that dedicated. This season, Hollway expects a squad of 90 to report. "Unfortunately," he notes. "60 of them will be freshmen." In a poll of coaches and sports-writer- s to predict the order of finish this season in the Ohio Athletic Conference. "I cannot predict the future, but if I could, I d feel a lot more comfortable,' says uneasy Marietta College coach Mike Hollway, the man on the spot. Marietta takes a losing itreak (three straight winless Jeasons) into the 1984 campaign and Hollway, in an appearance at Ihe Ohio Athletic Conference football preview, presented varying (Jegrees of "optimism"' about finally halting the infamous streak. . ;"We're optimistic," he began. Later he said, "We're trying to be optimistic." And then, "I'm not fOing to tell you our outlook this season is bright."
