DC-10- Bear Is Captured After Taking Stroll In Suburb of Denver FNGLEWOOD, Colo. (UPI) -Agents of the Colorado Division of Wildlife have captured a yearling black bear that wandered into the Denver suburbs earlier this week. Ron Howard of the state Game and Fish Department said the animal made its last stand for freedom in a tree in the yard of a home Tuesday, surrounded by curious residents and firemen who had nets handy. Howard fired a tranquilizer dart into the bear and the dazed animal climbed down into the waiting arms of wildlife officials. Dot Dulaney said she first saw the bear Monday as she and some friends were sipping wine on the balcony of her Greenwood Village home. She said the bear appeared to be more frightened than the homeowners. "He was really kind of pretty and he looked scared 'she said. "My neighbor said he wasn't coming over here for a drink again." Howard said the animal would be examined for injury or disease and then would be released in the mountains. The storm barely sustained the 75 mph winds necessary to be rated a hurricane. However, flash flood and tornado alerts were issued for regions of Louisiana and Mississippi in the path of the storm. The hurricane skittered across the marsh grass 20 miles west of Grand Isle, La., at daybreak. Grand Isle had prepared for the worst by evacuating virtually all 8,000 of its residents and tourists Tuesday. But the strongest winds bypassed the island. Gusts, however, were strong enough to scatter debris on the road, push surf over the lawns of beachfront cottages and fell power lines, causing scattered blackouts. Douglas Smith, one of the 200 persons who remained on the island, said Hurricane Bob was milder than some storms he experienced on the offshore oil rig where he worked as a cook. "I've seen winds worse than this out on the platform," Smith said.
