Show - Ann Landers It Homemaking Seminar Set Really Happened Dear Ann Landers: People sometimes accuse you of making up letters. They just can't believe it's possible to get into the fixes they read about in your column. The enclosed is from the San Diego Tribune. It should put an end to all speculation. I hope you print it. Ii made my day. Wanted: A young woman last seen wearing only a girdle and running in Mission Valley. Anyone having information may call officers at police headquarters or phone Bullock's 150-pou- department store, where the woman accused of shoplifting bit, clawed and fought off two security guards before losing her clothing and making her way to freedom. The fracas started about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was seen stuffing blouses and maternity pants inside her girdle. Security guards Linda Gill and Clifford Labyk, who now are nursing wounds inflicted by teeth and fingernails, followed the shoplifter and tried to take her into custody. The woman began fighting like crazy, according to a police account. Labyk, who police say "is as big as a football player," grabbed the woman to keep her from hitting his partner after Gill was bitten on the hand. Labyk struggled to hold the woman. She bit him on the arm twice. The shoplifter lost her shoes as she tried to pull away. Then her blouse and skirt came off. She wasn't wearing a bra. Police impounded the woman's clothes, but she escaped with the merchandise stuffed in her girdle. That's it, Ann. Want to comment? Truth Is Stranger In California Dear Truth: After 27 years I am positively shockproof. Credit should be given to John Gilmore of the San Diego Tribune. He's my kind of reporter. Dear Ann Landers: In October I lost my dear mother, who was only 49 years old. I was and still am devastated. At Christmastime I received dozens of cards from friends and relatives wishing me "joy, merriment and happiness." I was shocked that people could be so thoughtless. All card stores have a special selection for those in mourning. I did receive a few and appreciated them greatly. Because I respect your opinion I need to know if I am being too harsh on my friends, or were they out of order? A.K., Paterson, you. For Tuesday Dear Ann Landers: I just read the letter from the Doberman pinscher and would like equal time. I am a black cat. Many superstitious people kick me to make sure I don't cross in front of them. Others avoid me like I had some loathsome disease.
