"The wind was a big factor. far as being cold, it didn't seem too cold to me. " For the record it was 25 degrees in New York Sunday when the Cowboys-Jet- s game began and the swirling winds reduced the chill factor to barely above zero. But Landry apparently felt it was not worth noticing since next Sunday he and his troops will be up in "Frost City," for their first round playoff meeting with the Minnesota Vikings. Weather is always a popular topic for playoff games in Minnesota, so Landry seemed to want to develop the right mental attitude early. The word, however, had not reached his players. "That was one of the coldest games I could ever remember," said the Cowboys' fierce free safety, Cliff Harris. "I never noticed the cold as much." Dallas came away from the Jets game with just what it wanted a win, unimpressive though it may have been, and But as no new injuries. To protect the the sore ribs of Roger Staubach, quarterback starting assignment against the Jets went to backup Clint Longley, the first pro game in which he has opened as signal caller. "I enjoyed it," said the onetime rattlesnake hunter from Abilene Christian College. "It was a lot of fun. "But, of course, it wasn't a very significant game. The game plan wasn't anything difficult to understand Landry was pleased enough with the victory, which pushed Dallas to a 4 regular season record. 10-- DESIGNED TO HELP experts as well as beginners, the Saturday county - wide program at Sundance has provided lessons and transportation to local skiers for over twenty years. Sundance Continues Service Busing Program Aids Skiers More than 20 years ago, a Provo skier named Junior Bounous, who now heads up the skiing program at Snowbird, realized that more people would be able to enjoy skiing if cnuld he transportation arranged throughout Utah County to take young skiers to his ski school at Timp Haven each Saturday. While many things have changed in the ensuing two decades, including the name of the resort, the same basic bus system is still functioning much to the successfully, delight of those who use it. According to Brent Beck, general manager for Sundance so named in 1968 when the resort was purchased by a group headed up by Robert Redford more than 18 buse will be needed to accommodate the demand for transportation Utah County, beginning immediately after Christmas. Pick-upoints for the buses, many of whom will have to make two trips, aie located in Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant throughout p Grove, Orem, Provo, Springville, Spanish Fork and Payson. A part of the original Bounous concepts was to combine the transportation with a meaningful ski lesson and plenty of free - time skiing. When the buses pull up. , instructors are there to meet them. The skiers break into small groups by ability and age and each person spends two hours learning ski techniques and safety principals before the free time begins Ruses thpn begin their return trips right after lunch, leaving as soon as they fill. A staff of 55 qualified instructors and 30 apprentice instructors are on hand this year to handle the teaching load with the hiring of an additional 10 instructors currently planned. Utah County has voiced its enthusiastic support of the busing program. "We are anxious to provide recreational opportunities for anyone in the county who is interested," said D. Russell Grange, Jr., coordinator of the newly formed Utah County Parks and Recreation Department. "The recreational skiing program at Sundance does a great deal to help us facilitate that goal, and although we're not directly involved, we're most anxious to see it continue to serve the needs of Utah -- County residents." Skiers interested this in participating program can Grange at To avoid a similar situation next year, McKeen said he thought the officials should include in the contract a promise that no tampering with the time would occur. "I enjoy sports and even when I pick up a book it's a sports book," says John. "My goal is to qualify for international competition but I know it will probably take until my junior or senior year to be that good."
