For the three years the Pioneers have been extensively involved in gymnastics and have captured the State 2A title. Saturday the team added their third state trophy to the list. Lehi finished with 201.4 points with the next closest school, Richfield, almost 50 points down the scale. Eleven Pioneer girls placed in the top six of eight events and Sheryl Porter was second All Around in the optional category with 27.9 points. Coach Katherine Chatfield is understandably pleased with her team. Fifteen of the 18 girls on the squad qualified for state. The team won all three of the meets, including Region 9, that they attended this season. Chatfield said the key to the Lehi showing this year has been the fact that four girls enter all events and the remainder specialize in two or three, giving the Pioneers a good deal of strength to draw on when the competitions come along. In the Class III (compulsory) events. Lehi's Diane Palmer was first in the bars. Cindy Crittendon was fourth in the balance beam. In the floor exercise.
