The Bulldogs kept Brighton scoreless till 3 42 remained in the first quarter. Brighton, which played a strong game of ball control, was unable to penetrate the Bulldog's press. The Provo squad gained an early lead and never lost it. Early in the second period, Brighton moved within one point of Provo. However, Coach Jim Spencer called time to relax his players. When play resumed, Provo hit on three consecutive baskets by Brett Vroman, Mark Bowen and Vance Law. The Bengals' Jeff Nilsson popped in his second of three baskets to close the gap tc five. After the basket, the Bulldogs assumed complete dominance in the game. Opening up a ten point spread, the Bulldogs played a game of ball control for the remainder of the half. A happy Coach Spencer and team took a 20 to 10 lead into the half. : The highly effootive Bulldog press held Brighton to a two point quarter. Brighton tried to keep control of the ball in order to prevent the Bulldogs from pulling out of reach. Bowen, who popped in eight points for the night, made two baskets in less than 10 seconds to put Provo Coach Spencer later ahead commented that Bowen, who had missed some games because of a cracked ankle, was a "fine player who hustles every minute he's on the court. Mark is an excellent player with great potential. A real winner."- The Provo Bulldogs, then coasted the final minute to a 43 to 22 easy victory over Brighton. Coach Spencer, whose team increased its winning streak to 41, said honestly that "the streak isn't important-doinyour best is. Whether we win 41 or 51 or 88 it doesn't matter. The team just has to do their best. Now and for the rest of their lives. As for Brighton, they are a fine team." 32-1- g BRKOTON Davidson Quip 0-- 4 3--7 3 Jensen Takes 5 1 2 4 1 6 4 HfinHrlFl I 2- I I 4 3 scorer Colby Adamson, the leading in Region Six, had 26 points Friday night to pace Pleasant Grove to its first league victory, a 8 triumph over winless Uintah.
