Show izggs to Be in irraw berry. n Many old memories were stirred one evening last week when were privileged to attend a retirement party " for old friend Lee Kay,: Few who read these words will not know Lee, for he has served Utah and us people well throughout 35 years of "tramping" the state as an official of tne department oi.iisn ana game m cnarge r of information and education work, Tramping is the word since he walked : " j the ' marshes and the mountains while t making moving pictures of the state's' re- sources which he then showed to schools, ,V to clubs and other audiences as he talked enof the relation of man to his natural vironment arid the need! to properly man- ? resources. . f ; outdoor these use and Ji j' y age ; heard what , Few of us around today but Lee once or more during bygone school years since for some 3 0l years he visited Casey Bown nearly every school in the state and lectured to an estimated 120,000 students. Rightly known as Mr. Fish and Game, he has had so many firsts in his chosen field of outdoor education that 'lie has become a legend over the years both at home and wherever in the Nation our outdoor reserves are discussed. His roots came from pioneer stock down Mona way. Ambition and hard work, including laboring in the mines, saw him graduate from Brigham . Young University.? After some years of teaching school in Heber Valley he was employed in the department of fish and game where he originated and implemented the programs which have become so well known and done so much for outdoor recreation and conservation. He worked under Dave Madsen, Meacham, Newell Cook, Ross Leonard, Randall Turpini Perry, Egan and Harold Crane. Probably as great a tribute to the man and his program is the fact that it survived the political changes common to fish and game management until a decade or so ago. We'd guess that one day someone will write, a biography of this man and when they do it will have to become better known as a history of the fish and game program in Utah during the 35 years of his service. So to Lee and his good wife Leah, may the golden a fair share of the good things years now at hand give-yo- u you earned in serving Utah and each of us. WONDER, if Bob Bullock has been down along the lower Provo and caught himself a walleye yet? Our fish and game commissioner claims they are the best eating fish from either fresh or salt water but recently confessed he'd only eaten, not caught one yet. Oh well, Uncle Bob, join the party and don't feel bad on account very few folks hereabouts have caught one legally that is.
