The old saying, "it never rains but it pours," is well exemplified as regards theatricals in Ogden. Sometimes a thespian boom strikes our city, and we have about ten performances within as many days. Then the exeitement abates, and we are permitted to go dramatically h.ingry for a month or two. It is a great pity that Ogden cannot have an organized local company, that we might at least have one performance a week. There is a class of people here, who would patronize a good company, and that liberally. There is plenty of talent, and all it needs is a master spirit to bring it out. But in the meanwhile it is about time we had another performance, and in fact a visit from some of the companies from our sister cities, would not come amiss. We have heard many of eur citizens speak in the highest terms of the Brigham City Dramatic Company, and we are convinced that if our northern friends would come down and give us an entertainment or two, they would meet with We a most flattering reception. From the South. Ct. Mr.S. Crowley, w'io has returned on the 15th of Feb. from his mission in the Southern States, where he had labored for six months, has paid us a pleasant visit, He found little progress in the condition of the people of northwestern Kentucky from the time when he lived there as in his native home. The inhabitants of the rural districts have a hard struggle with existence and there is not much prospect of immediate improvement. Religious confusion is bewildering the minds of the illiterate country folks. Except in the cities there seems to have been no advance made in the public school system for the last two decades. The people ore and peaceable, however, Mr. Cowley was very kindly receiv ed by his relatives and old friends, adding many new ones. Concerning the faith and doctrine of the Latter- day Saints the people were very ig norant, but showed, however, much willingness to learn the truth and become acvpnir.ted with the gospel.
