After taking seat hecalled for a and, on on'' being handed him, he took it in his hands and held it before his face as if to read the contents, with a painful effort at and control of nerve. While holding the paper his hands shook and his whole system seemed to bo in a Uto of tremulousiiess puinfui to see and impossible to describe. The probability,! might say the certainty, of bis "weakening" completely when the fatal moment arrives, intensities the situation and makes the duty of those who are culled upon to be present much mora painful than expected. It will be a harrowing spectacle, and the general desire is that it may be made as speedy as possible. Wilkerson has made a statement, affirming, in substance, that he was justified in the killing of Baxter, but beyond this is decidedly uncommunicative. Mr.Stanford stated that, in response to the request of several of our leading citizens, a meeting of the taxpayers had been legally called by the Trustees, for Tuesday, May Cth, but in consequence of so few being present at that date U was resolved to adjourn the meeting until this evening. The object of the call was to consider the subject of building a central schoolhouse. The fact existed that our schoolhouses were insufficient in size to accommodate our conpresent school population. He sidered that a large central school-housin which to conduct a graded school would facilitate our educational interest, would be an advantage to our children, and a matter of economy to the people iu the cost of tuition. He repudiated the rumor in circulation that this meeting was called in the interest of any one individual or to favor any class.
