The French sous, or pennies, and double sous, are rnado of bronze, and the quantity of them in circulation is immense. Among the lower classe,, it is the principal circulating medium. On the great fete days, when the price of admission to the Expositions was five sous, four wa'on loads of this bronze money was sent to the Treasury next day, weighing about six tons. The passenger railway and omnibus conductors receive nothing but bronze money, .and must have cart loads brought in daily. The markets and small keepers conduct their business largely with bronze money. Gold is more abundant than silver in the larger branches of trade, and Government notes are seldom seen of a smaller denomination than one hundred francs, up to tivu hundred aud one thousund. There would seem to be no need here for silver, a.s the gold rive lranc and ten and twenty franc pieces areahuiidantyind much more convenient and acceptable than silver money. are ine silver denominations those of five francs, enud so one dul lar, two francs, one franc, aan a half lranc, equal to our dime, fsilverwill never be used hero except as a means ot making change in pur chases, or anywhere else where gold and redeemable paper are available iNHEUSER'S iite Ordinance Relating of TUZVoZl W?e W.
