Colcbrook Building, Salt Lake City. Correspondence promptly attended to. San Francisco Correspondent N. Y. Mail. I have been watching with some interest the effects of climate, soil and surroundings upon tha immigrants and their descendants. The difference is not very great, or it would have been more remarked, but I aai satisfied that there is quite a change in the physique of" both men, women and children, after some years immersed in this environment. The men and women become more fleshly, t with a tendency to obesity, and the children, besides being of larger limbs and frames, have unusual amounts of adipose accretions on their nether limbs. Their feet are larger, unless, indeed, this be an effect! produced by the universal practice of squeezing the feet of all ages into miserable, ,ill shaped and contracted shoes. The men are prone to be bald headed, while the women, on the other hand, though they luxuriate in more hair than in the East, by some malign influeoce lose that soft and pearly texture of the skin. There are few consumptives, which may possibly arise from the greater r amount of exercise and sunshine enjoyed. Diseases of the nerves are more common than thocc of the excrementary organs and diwhieh, I fancy, gestive viscera, arises . in part, from a free use of stimulants, condiments and spices, as well as a large proportion of animal food. The beef and mutton here are good, and can be kept hung out doors without becoming tainted Ut days. The drinking habits of California are provokingly in excess of the healhty system, and to the excessive use of spirituous' drinks; such aa whisky and brandy, must be laid most of the nervous disorders of the people.
