The ertfcly pilgrimage of Millard TilJmore, the thirteenth President of the United States, closed on Sunday night. This session of Con-- ) gress was the longest and most turbulent in the history of the nation. The policy of compelling Japan to ovei throw the barriers of its isolation and to open its ports to the commerce of the world, was one of the grand features of Fillmore's administration. Commodore Perry's memorable triumph in securing the sub mission of that Empire to treaties of friendship and commerce was an event which the world recognizes as one of the most signal achievements of the nineteenth century. Mr. Fillmore's administration was rendered still more remarkable for the success with which it moulded the foreign policy of the Government. Louis Koseuth was engaged in the propagandise of revolutionary ideas to enlist the sympathy of the great powers of the world in behalf n f his country. He made a fervent appeal to this country to extend to his countrymen, the moral intervention of the Great Republic. He was zealously seconded in his appeal by Cass, Douglas, and other leading statesmen.
