Uhited Slates District Attorney con cluded an investigation of the "Virgin-ius- " prisoners this afternoon, and they were landed and taken charge of by representatives of the Cuban Junta. The Tribune says no tidings ean be obtained concerning the "Virginius." She can; hardly have been left in the lower bay, since the tide is in every way most favorable for towing her in. It seems to be the general opinion here, that the 'Virginius'' was either cast adrift or accidentally separated from the Ossip-peduring the terrible storm of the 28th inst. Ail recent reports have represented her as being in a leaky, and generally disabled condition. Experienced mariners express the opinion that she would hardly be able to withstand the recent gale, which all incomNothing ing vessels have reported. d. finite could be learned however, at the hour of going to press. The United States steamer, "Ossip-pee,- " arrived here without the "Virginius." It is rumored that the "Virginius'' has sunk. Washington, 29. The reported demand, or proposed demand of Spain upon the U. S. for the return of the Virginius," with indemnity, is not believed by the officials here, no authentic information havingg been received here to that effect, beside 0 such a requisition would be contrary te the terms of the proposal between th two nations. While some Senators thin jj the nomination may ultimately be con . firmed, others are of the opinion that ij, will die in committee. San Francisco, 28. The robbery at Kingston, Fresno County, was committed by the notorious Tibuico Vasquez and his gang. There were only thirteen of the party, but they captured and bound forty men and then robbed them and the stores in which they were caught. Other citizens opened fire on the robbers, who returned the fire but were obliged to retreat. Vasquez, himself had four revolvers' on his person. Pursuit was given, and one of the desperadoes has been captured. A large force is after the rest. Chicago, 29. The members of the brotherhood of engineers in this city, have passed a resolution 'that they are not disposed to submit to any reduction of the rate of wages they were receiving prior to Dec. 1st, as that rae was low enough, although it gave general satisfaction. Also tendering their sympathy, and promising their support to all engineers now opposing, or who may hereafter eppose any reduction of their wages. These resolutions are published and signed. Columbns, 0 , 29. The locomotive engineer's strike continues. The railroad officials say the strike certainly will break in a few days, but the engineers appear determined to hold out. Obstructions were y on the Little Miami discovered Road within the city limits, and a locomotive that was to be started out was discovered to have been soaped. New Fork, 29. W. M. Graham, The trial ef late President of the Walkill National Bank, charged with embezzling $100,000 of the funds of the bank, was commenced this afternoon in the United States Court, before Judge Benedict, The jury was obtained, and the Court adjourned until Qsick Tims.
