But it is be coming a common occurrence In Ogden as well as practically all other cities when the cold wintry nights arbecomes rive and sleeping decidedly uncomfortable. Last night the county jail had more than its quota of sons of rest who preferred spending a night in a warm but barred cell rather than bunking in an alley or in the "jungles" near the river. The demand for jail sleeping space became so great as early as dark last evening that it was necessary to place two men 'in the padded cell, but they welcomed the place with shouts of joy. ' An old man, fat "past; his sixties, sought shelter in the Jail Last night, after abandoning, an improvised home in which he has lived during most of the summer. His former home was an old abandoned steam boiler in the western section of the city. He had built a crude fireplace In it' and had covered 'the 'holes with pieces of tin. Here he had slept for. months. He had no blankets, so" before he retired he would scrape the hot coals and ashes from his fire to the portion where he slept to warm the cold iron where he slept. He said he would then get to sleep before .the chill overtook him. But the bitter cold of the-la- st few nights drove him from his Iron residence and he sought the warmth of the county jail. : so: . The worklngman who has set his heart and dedicated his efforts in the direction of home owning can accomplish this result as easy as he can pay the rent he is now paying.
