Show t i SATURDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 8, 1921. ENCASH! lf,i?ORTAKCE OF MISSIONARY SIT AT Many Firsts Gathered by ; Orchard Men of This V Community - r.- of mission field work and the necessity of obedience to authority, were the thoughts impressed by speakers at the second day's session yesterday semiannual genof the ninety-secon- d eral conference of the L. D. S. church, held in the Salt Lake tabernacle. Mission presidents and former presidents from various fields of the'ehurch In the United States were called to the stand, and unanimously they empha-to sized the deep import of the work be performed In - bringing what several of them termed the ''onlytrue gospel'v to the people of the world. OBEDIENCE STRESSED. Several of the missionary speakers, as well as members of the first council of seventy,, took occasion to dwell or at some length upon the obligation obedience as one of the prime essentials In the life of the worthy members of the church and some revelations asserting that woe would follow those who were not subject 'to authori& ty were freely quoted. .Discussion of various doctrinal aspects-of Mormonlsm .and reiteration of the importance of mission work formed the burden of the morning session. 'Assistant Organist E. P. Kimball played the accompaniments and Assistant Director B. Cecil Gates had charge of the choir. "Come, Let Us Anew" was sung by choir and congregation as the opening hymn and Sylvester Q. Cannon, president of Pioneer stake, offered the Invocation. "Now, Let Us Rejoice in thu Day of Salvation" was sung with fervor by the assemblage that packed the tabernacle. APOSTLE SPEAKS. Dr. John A. Widtsoe, Junior mem ber of the council of twelve, who was the first speaker called to the stand by President Grant, told, after hearing testimony to the truth of Mormonlsm, of the visit he had paid during the last few months to numerous stakes of the church, and "the abundance of the spirit of God" that he had found there. He had been greatly lmpressea by the devotion of the old and the eagerness of the young to enter into the work. George W. McCune, president of the Eastern state3 mission, who followed Dr. Widtsoe, laid emphasis upon the statement, that while the work of the church in his Jurisdiction was fairly prosperous.
