Show WEDNESDAY EVENING, APRIJL 13, nub m:lximxmn 1 92 1 objection was sustained by Judge T) R. Roberts. Attorney Ramage arose and indig-to a right insisted that nantly cross examine with the view of proving the witness a drug fiend, that use of drugs, for several years had undermined her mentally, and that she was incredible of belief. Judge Roberts said the county attorney's objection would be' sustained. TURNS OVER JEWELRY. The witness was then asked how she happened to be connected with the case. She said that she had returned to her home and had told her mother of the affair. The mother took her Jewelry from her and called the police, turning the jewelry over to Deputy Sheriff Schoppe. She said that she related the story to Schoppe when she turned over the jewelry. She said that Detective ltobert Purk, SCth Thomas and another man. had called to visit her and had questioned her regarding her knowledge of the affair. "She said that the officers had sought her assistance in locating the missing jewelry. The girl, when asked if she were not testifying for the purpose of shielding her husband, denied the allegation, and said that her husband had no connection with the . - he-ha- d - 1 Og-fle- . nt-h-i. , , affair. v -- br . The girl testified that Monday she was subpoenaed as a - witness. She said that the officers had assured her that her testimony in the preliminary would exclude her as a withearing ness in the district court. She 'said before the court that because of her physical condition she wanted to avoid appearance before the district court. At the conclusion of the girl's testimony, Judge D. R. Roberts declared that the facts in the case were sufficient, to warrant the binding over re-of the defendant'.":. He ordered Atkins manded into custody of the sheriff, and fixed bail in the sum of $3000. SAYS JAIL FILTHY. Atkins created a small sensation by asking the judge if he could be immediately removed to the county jail. He said that he had no facilities to bathe, Wash his clothes, or pay any attention to cleanliness. 'He said that where there were welts on his body vermin had bothered him."- - Atkins said that the matter should be taken up by the city board of health. Judge Roberts assured Atkins that he would be removed immediately and that he would call attention of. the health department to the condition of the jail. A peculiar coincidence surrounded the placing in the county jail of Atkins, for almost at the same time of his incarceration, David .N. Thomp-kina friend of Atkins for years, was on a charge also placed in a jail cell " and Atkins of selling morphine. Thompkins met in the jail corridors as they were being taken in and shook hands. Thompkins is 26 years of age and a laborer. He Is being held for trial in the district court. . GAVE HER JEWELRY. Atkins, the girl claimed., stayed at He her apartment, until Tuesday fave her $250 and a few bits of jew-lrtelling her that this represented Rausch's share in the robbery, to her testimony.. Thomas Ramage, attorney for Atkins, immediately, put questions to the witness which caused her to protest y, pure, rich, delicious and Grant is now p Our store No. 4 at Twenty-fourtin remodeled.
