The bill was rend, and on motion of Mr. Preston was referred back to the committee with instructions to limit the boundaries of the city so as to comply with the congressional law in regard to the entry of townsites. Mr. Hatch introduced a bill for an act amending "an act regulating fes and cmpenxaiior for ofiiciul services in the Territory of Utak." Lelaod, a native of the town of Giaftou, iu this State, now of Troy, Kansas, who raised atid comaiaudcd the Fifth Kansas Volunteers in tluj late war, relates the following incident : In the spr'iDg of 1SG4, we were marching along in a broken woody country in Southern Arkansas, southward, when ouc day the infantry, about 200 stroug, acting as escort to my mule train of about 1G0 wagons, was moving just in advance of it. As they passed a sharp turn in the road bv the corner of a field fence, a strong b dy of rebels suddenly rushed out from the timber and brush and attacked them, killing and wounding the officers and some men and two or three of the musicians. Our escort was thrown into confusion and ran back; so did the little drummer boy, with his drum over Col. Cyrus his shoulder.
