Show SLATE. , The Truth Will Xerer Die. r Ten: For roofipg purposes, slate, is far better than shingles. It will not curl up with the heat of the summer sun nor umler the alleged influence of the silver moon. It lasts a great deal ' longer than shingles, and looks a vast deal better. It does not leak when the rains come and drench it, nor catch fire when jparks fall upon it. It does not require any paint, and,' altogether for roofing purposes, is aa far ahead of shiDgles as they rj of that primitive cabin-coveri- dht. ft 1 V.l V) ' .. f M 11 I t ' spare for exportation! We have heard a great deal of talk poirething. Ogden can export slate to various parts of the Territory, and can export it to California, , Utah whera it would be in great demand ' if sold at reasonable piices. lhe discoverers of the immense fclate deposit, to which we allttded to Saturday, a sample of which is in bur office, propose to orgacize a joint stock company for the purpose of working it. They will give Ogden men the first chance to take shares. If they will not lay hold. pf the enterprise, outside capital will be in rite J. All capital is timid, but Ogden capital is as a general thing, perfectly scared. We think, however, it Would acquire a little courage, not to say confidence, if this vast body of late were fairly exhibited It is easy of access, can almost be reached by teams without using the canyon road or costing toll, and will begin to pay V i soon as it is worked. ' . We draw attention to tbis discov-tr- y for the purpose of stirring up a little interest of ft practical character. We may talk political eooriomy for ever, and still plod along in the old path,' the slaves to foreign imports add the contributors to foreign capital. But if wlien' we see 'a chance to utilita the crude ' material placed within our reach by the hand of Providence, we take hold of It and try to' t something, we can build up the country and benefit ourselves and will show a little consistency. We advise those who read these ; remarks, to enquire into this thing, and if they rind there is something in it (never mind if it doesn't reach the 'millions') then let theui. work it up,and ho that they appreciate the value of home productions and the importance of the political economy which we til so cordially endorse in ? .1 1! 1 ! f, 1 'i i ? hand-to-mout- h i ' ! . theory.'"
