The Ogden Iron Manufacturing Company are not making much noise, but are steadily at work, and mean business. Mr. Taif, who is superintending the erection of the blast furnace, is from the North of England, and an old and experienced hand at furnace making Mr. Parks has charge of the Works, and is doing his best to put the thing through; and Mr. I. E. Brown is the acting manager, full of confidence and enthusiasm over the enterprise. There i no doubt that the successful inauguration of this branch of manufac ture will be of incalculable benefit to Ogden. The making of iron is the foundation of numerous industries. We have an abundance of the raw material almost at our doors, four railroads meet close by the works, to make business and convey material, and it only wants good backing and perseverance to make Ogden Iron Works one of the great institutions of Utah, and of the great Pacific Slope. . From the Herald of this morning we learn that a boy named Firkins, thirteen years of age, jumped on to one of the W. & J. Y. R. U. cars yesterday at Fairfield Flats, and either jumping off or falling to the ground was run over by the cars and horribly nyvngled. His right leg was broken and his right arm reduced to a pulp. Drs. Benedict amputated the arm, set the leg and dressed the other wounds, and the boy was brought to Salt Lake.
