On of time.ly one magic i'7tlf Juue, 18G!), a (Tifitrkt wag organ tied at Ibia lavo cullod Hooper City, with Mr. Gilbert Helknajt an President. There were then seven small houses in the vicinity, all recently built. "A Inn f jnlintv in n .1 t Ai.1t!irt!it reaching four and a half miles from north to south, and ranging from one anile to nearly five miles from east to saml-rMg- 11 west. it on Monday Inst, and not withstanding what wo had seen in va i ious pin t of this Territory, we were fairly astonished at the tnarvollous changes brought about In a little more than two years. Huge slacks of grain were. j i!el ap in all directions, away down to tur, margin of (lie Ureal Lake Corn, ten feet high, waved its tassels in the brme, and great ripening ears could be soeii out among the tiread fjreen leaves; vegetable! of all kinds, in long thrifty rows, were waiting for the knife or the spade, and an air of luri't and plenty pervaded the whole district. Threshing niaebinea were at work running ont tbe ripe golden wheat, and from tbe present yield it is estimated that at least "O.OtHJ bushels of small grain will be threshed out this fall. We went into Mr. Hooper'a garden and pulled a young cabbage that weighed 7)jrtis, took the dinnnsione of cucumber measuring 2oj inches, and taw jlendid peaches on trees planted two 'jreara ago then one year old from the bud. Meat of the bouses is tbe seUln. We visited pet-pin- lying ted, which would be just as rich and fruitful as the best, if n!y water enough could be obtained to fertilise tlim. The Hooper survey exteuda three miles south and half a mile north of the lunds now under cultivation, is it given out to claimants, bat will re main sterile nud worthless, instead of U'inging forth bread and irua u bin dance, unless more water is brought out of the surging Weber. To do this the Hoopei ilea mu&t go farther up the river in order to obtain a greater fall aud the right to make the new canal must be obtained from tbe County Court. The rights of settlers through whose land it would pats must be consulted, also tho rights of all oilier persons who would be iu any way aftected by its eouM ruction, lint all tkese considerations one would think might be easily and amicably settled, and (he water now tunning waste ovur its rocky bed be turned in a sufficient quantity to save the worthy settler frow vacating his hard-wittheritance, an.l to bring under cultivation the thousands of level acres within tbe survey over whioh we passed on Mondoy last, to say nothing of ninny more that with the same element and similar muscle and tkill may be made to flourish with plenty and blossom with beauty. Hooper City is a wonderful specimen of what has been done in this Territory by skill, perseverance, bard labor wisely directed, and the fertilizing properties of water: ift w hope to see the whole of that eplendid plain one continuous succession of fields and gardens, intersected by shining streams, conveying to the remotest spot all tbe water that the wants of every settler msy demand or require. aslf P. Making a slight detour, to come as near as poxsible to Mendon aud Wellsville on the Went aud Hyriim on the east of the Southern portion of the valley, it will run northward through Loan and on to Franklin, and tbence by th most practicable route to Soda Sprii gs. The Cache Valley peo- have contracted for the grading and tics for the roa I through that val ley, and subscribed stock to the amount of over $200,000 and it meeting will be held in Logan for the purpose of effecting the organization of a Company. The Box Elder County people will meet next Saturday at Brighain, tho work will be pushed ahead and the grading is expeoted to be finished to Frauklin during the coming winter. This will be a splendid thing for the people of Cache Valley, as well as a benefit to Ogden, and will materially aid in the development of the Soda Springs country. Yeara ago we dreamed of seeing the locomotive vith a train of cars, thundering along across Cache Valley to Logan, and as we believe in dreams, (when they suit us) we expect to behold Cach the reality. Valley, when the the leave country, will be grasshoppers the great granary of Utah, and tho new railroad will carry the vast products of that magnificent valley to the markets that mineral developments will make for them. Thousands of acres now unoccupied, will yield rich treasures to the laborer, and thriving towns will spring up near tho railroad track. The Soda Springs o mntry will prove a great attraction to travelers, and ita health-givinwaters that foam up from the earth will revive the springs of life in many a grateful heart. Ogden cannot fail to be benefitted, greatly, by the construction of this road. More will be the great receiving and shipping point for the products of northern Utah and Idaho, times will be lively, real estate will advance in value, end tbe city will spread out and improve in every direction. Success to tbe promoters of the new road, and fortune to all who help to put it through. ple y ' g Attixtiox. - All persona knowing themselves in debt to ir.e can liquidato the same by taking wheat to the Ogden Mills, and ferwardinginea receipt of the W. The British parliament was prorogued on Monday last. The Queen's Speech was of the usual description. After acknowledging "with satisfaction" the pecuniary provision made for the Trinceas Louise and Trince Arthur, Her Majesty states that "friendly relations continue to exist between the United Kingdom and foreign Towers, and that whatever part sho may take in international questions'' they will be taken with "no other view than the maintenance of general concord and public right." She hopes that the revision of tho treaty of '50 made at the London Conference may assist in securing the The Treaiy of tranquility of the Eas-tis dwelt Washington upon by Her Majesmuch with satisfaction, and she hopes ty that the rules agreed upon for guiding the conduct of neutrals will obtain gva eral recognition. She thanks the House of Commons for the "liberal supplies" they have voted, touches tho Irish ques tion, legislation on which she thinks h promoting "a gratifying unity," and winds up with a congratulation on the condition of the revenue, the activity of trade and tbe prospecta for harvest. The "Queen's speech'' is a more mat ter of form, prepared by the Premier, frequently read by deputy, and received with apathy by the audience. It is seldom remarkable for anything spe cial in style, matter or effect, but is tolerated as a necessary formality nndcr Constitutional rules, and if the straws now drifting over the United Kingdom really show which way the wind blows, the reading of a Royal speech will, in a few generations, be only a matter of his tory in the British Parliament.
