A dispatch from Nancy says that iho French have made numerous sorties from Metz, within the past few days. The object of the sorties is incomprehensible; as the French invariably meet numerous Prussian assaults the moment they got beyond the guns of Metz. The latest sortie was made upon this day, but without strategy; the loss on both sides were small. The following dispatch has been received from the capital: "Paris, Sunday, Oct. 2. The French troops, numbering G5,(XKJ, were engaged with'a heavy force of Prussians at Chevilly. On Friday last, a determined concerted movement upon the batiks of the Seine was made to ascertain the strength of the Prussians. At Chevilly the Prussians, protected by earthworks, opened a terrific fire upon he French, to which the latter replied vigorously. The Mobiles behaved splendidly, ami made several brilliantcharges upon the Prussian works, but were unable to capture the redoubts, though they inflicted heavy loss. The retreat was made in perfect order. The troops have been congratulated upon their admirable bearing. A recounoissance from the direction of Fort Beciere returns with the information that the Prussians, since the action at Chevilly, have been quietly at work, strengthening their fortifications upon the heights and plateaus of Villenouve. These works now appear formidable, aud heavy artillery will probably soon appear within the embrasures. Berlin, 7. A dispatch from Versailles announces that the Franc Tirreurs, or French guerillas, who infest that vicinity, have ambushed and shot the Crown Prince of Wurtembourg while he was riding in the Park of St. Cloud. His escort who were near him at the time, were assaulted with a perfect rain of bullets. All escaped except the Crown Prince, whose jaw was smashed. He was immediately conveyed to the village. His injuries are serious. His escort wheeled quickly and rode furiously into the woods, but the assassins had vanished. These free shooters swarm in the Park and through the forest of Saint Cloud, and cause great mischief by firing upon every Prussian soldier on senfry. In that direction they at lack the couriers and harrass and intercept all communication between St. Cloud and Versailles. Rouen, 7.
