In addition, Alta drubbed Provo 1 Thursday in a preseason dual meet. West Jordan also participated in the West meet, placing near the number five spot, while on 139-13- 7 249-19- 1 54-1- the Thursday mid-weig- Jaguars Provo dispatched state Brighton, the defending champ, opened its season with a 47-- 9 win over Woods Cross Wednesday. Bingham took home a pair of dual victories, winning 54-1-1. 4-- A over soundly Granite Wednesday 5 and Bonneville 3 Thursday. Jordan had a tough week, however, losing duals to Bear River to Granger Tuesday and did but place some Thursday, people high in the West tourney. In upcoming action, Brighton will host Bingham and Hillcrest will journey to Clearfield at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, while on Alta entertains Thursday West visits Jordan Taylorsville, Kearns and Hillcrest byes. On Friday and Saturday, Hillcrest and Bingham will take part in 43-1- 43-3- . 35-1- 5 46-1- 1 the Mountain Magna Invitational at Cyprus High. Next Tuesday, Jordan will host Kearns. All duals will be at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Five Hawks made it into the finals in the West High tournament and two, Brooke Nipko at 98 pounds and his brother Chet at 105, placed first. is a freshman, Brooke, Tucker undefeated, so far, at Nipko at 126, Dan Douglas at 145, and Russell Parry at 138 earned seconds and Scott VanWoerkam at heavyweight, Eric Gustafson at 155, and Scott Williams at 112 all placed third. In its dual win over Weber, Alta got pins from Brooke, Chet, and Tucker Nipko at 98, 105, and 126 pounds; Williams at 112, Pete Farrell 132, Douglas 155, Gustafson 167, and Paul Prawitt 185.' Paul Gillespie won by superior decision at 138, and heavyweight Rick Robertson won by forfeit. Not only did Hillcrest's varsity win the Elko tourney, but the Huskies' J.V. squad took third in the same tournament. First place winners included varsity performers Mike Stidham at 126 pounds, Ron Neff at 138, Mike Stewart 145, Blake Cook at 155, Rob Hill at 175, and Joe VanValkenburg at 185. In addition, John Williams was third and Howard Peet fourth at 98, Lee Cook second and Lee Neff fourth at 105, Monty Cook third and Greg Peterson fourth 112, Rich Burkinshaw third 119, Chris Hurzler third and Jim Maxwell fourth 167, Brad Street third 175, Jokim Eurenius third 185, and Greg Burr at heavyweight second. Ron Neff was named the tournament's outstanding wrestler. Chris High's Brighton Charman at 105 pounds, Mark at Romine 145, Perry and Scott at 138, Skudlarzyk Snow at 185 all won by falls against Woods Cross. Decisions went to Sean Keller 112, Joe Imperiale at 119, Matt Bain 126, Jeff Arbor 155, and Mike Williams heavyweight, while Kris Hodgkins at 132 won by superior decision.
