Public Jordan Safety Department closed a successful sting operation Friday which operated as an appliance repair and a purchaser of second hand property. "We felt we needed to do something about burglaries and rather than reacting we decided to act," stated Public Safety Director Kal Fair who added that 11 people, .eight juveniles and three adults have been arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and burglary offenses. Currently there are 35 suspects under investigation and other arrests are pending. During the eight month course of the operation, $2,156 was expended to buy the property which is valued at $16,500 with v operators offering 13 percent of the fair market value. Fair estimated that approximately of the property sold two-thir- was stolen. Property will be returned to owners who file a complaint with the department and can identify the property with a serial number or other significant identification mark. If the property remains unclaimed, it will be auctioned to the public. Explaining that a sting oper- ation is a covert operation, Farr said a great deal of research and legal work was done prior to the operation to ensure that the sting would not be termed an entrapment. The young ladies participating are judged in four areas: swimsuit, talent, interviewing, and evening gown. The swimsuit competition is held privately before judges only; the others are public. Judges are selected from outside the community so they are not acquainted with the entrants.
