West Jordan Mayor Dennis Randall will hand deliver the names to the Utah Health Systems Agency which will assist in the final selection. West Jordan Council member Chris Buttars, West Jordan resident Paul Steinfelt and Riverton resident Howard Price were chosen by the COG subcommittee consisting of ; sites committee chairman Dennis Randal and mayors from Bluff dale, Riverton, and South Jordan in addition to a county commissioner who represented the unincorporated areas of the west side of the county. Randall noted he was pleased with the representation from the . west side and all three were excellent choices and would make strong representatives. The decision to submit three westside names came after a strong push by the West Jordan City Council to have a community to and have hospital representation oa the board which not only chooses where hospitals are built but how many hospital beds and major equipment is allowed in a community. "We began sometime ago to try to get representation from the southwest quadrant of Salt lake County and in the last two months we have had an intensive effort to get a consumer from the southwest area," explained Randall. "First we had to fight for a community hospital and now we've had to fight for representation on the board. At last we got a concession from Health Systems Agency when they asked us to supply three names from the westside to COG." In addition to the HSA, the Joint Projects Review Committee will review the nominees in October and select one to serve as consumer. The Joint Committee has twenty four members, half are providers to health services and hospitals while the other half are consumers of these services. All proposals for health care and facilities are presented to the and committee their recommendations are made to the governing body of the Health Systems Agency which in turn makes recommendations to the Executive Director of the Health Department, Dr. James O. Mason. In more action, COG approved the formation of a committee which would direct and encourage the development of an adequae water supply for Salt Lake County. Prompted by a recent tour of water facilities in the county, COG said the water supply was not evenly distributed throughout the county since Salt Lake City, due to pioneer foresight, had a surplus which is presently being sold on an basis to other communities throughout the county. As growth takes place in Salt Lake City and throughout the county less surplus water will be available leaving communities without an adequate water supply. In addition to charting a course to ensure safe, equitable and adequate water supply for Salt Lake County, the committee is to in develop an awareness improving water supply issues and to work with water agencies of Salt Lake County. The committee is to report back to COG in December. |
