On April 19, this housewife and mother of six will take on the Boston Marathon. She will be included in field of runners that could top 16,000 in number and in the space of 26 miles she will run past an estimated one million spectators. The Boston race is unique among marathons in that to get in a runner must first meet or beat a qualifying time for their age group at a sanctioned marathon. Florence did not have to worry about that qualification, as she has broken her age group mark twice this past year. She first qualified in the July 24 marathon, her time of 3:28.14 beating the time for ladies' 40 to 44 group by nearly two minutes.
