I - .. researching second opinions, the South Valley Water Reclamation Facility Board voted Thursday unanimously to push ahead with its current plans for a 25.5 million gallon per day waste water treatment plant. The board felt that looking into recently offered plant alternative proposals was costing both time and money with the plant construction costs going up at a rate of $100,000 per month. They also doubted that any of the alternatives would save that much money or work properly. The decision came as a result of consultations with facilities . managers Jack Peterson and , ,lJL 'JJ . An authorization bill, recently signed by President Reagan, has asked for $10 billion to be spent on sewage facilities over the next four years or $2.4 billion a year. If the appropriation is made, Utah will get approximately $12 million in 1962 and $12.9 million for each of the three years after that. South Valley would expect about $3.7 million per year. If South Valley matched that with $1.2 million in local funds under a 2575 split it would have about $4.9 million per year for construction. But, if South Valley decided on a 5050 match the per year total would be $7.4 million. At present, the projected cost for the new plant is around $50 million. At Thursday's meeting, however, design engineers told the board that between $5 and $8 million could be saved off that $50 million estimate by building now and cutting the inflation factor. The engineers told the board that plant elements were designed for future expansion with the ultimate design going past the original 25.5 million gallon per day capacity. The design is flexible enough to allow for increased flows and treatment modifications that would be cheaper to install now than later.
