Show ic Notice MIDVALE, UTAH SIGN ORDINANCE No.ft-MI-A PARTI GENERAL REGULATIONS PURPOSE AND SCOPE The purpose of this code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life, health, property and welfare public by and conregulating trolling ' the design, quality of materials, construction, location, electrification and maintenance of all signs and sign structures not located within a building. A sign shall not be erected in a manner that would confuse of obstruct the view or interpretation of any official traffic sign, signal or device. The regulations of this code are not intended to permit any violation of the provisions of any other lawful ordinance. ENFORCEMENT (a) Authority. The building official is hereby authorized and directed to enforce all the provisions of this code. For such purposes he shall have the powers of a law enforcement officer. (b) Right Of Entry. Whenever necessary to make an inspection to enforce any of the provisions of this code, or whenever the building official or his authorized representative has reasonable cause to believe that there exists in any building or upon any premises any condition or code violation which makes such building or premises unsafe, dangerous or hazardous, the building official or his authorized representative may enter such building or premises at all reasonable times to inspect the same or to any duty imposed upon the building official by this code, provided that if such building or premises be occupied, he shall first perform present proper credentials and request entry; and if such building or premises be unoccupied, be shall first make a reasonable effort to locate the owner or other persons having charge or control of the building or premises and re- quest entry. If 'such entry is refused, the building official or his authorized representative shall have recourse windows, and other openings with supports extending back to the building, supported BUILDING LINE: entirely by the building. "Building Line" shall mean a vertical sur- face intersecting the ground along a line at which the front of the building occupies the lot on which it is constructed. BUILDING, FRONT LINE OF: "Front Line of Building" shall mean the line of that face of the building or structure nearest the front line of the lot. This face includes sun parlors, bay windows, covered and or uncovered porches whether enclosed or unenclosed, but does not include uncovered steps less than four (4) feet above grade and eaves overhanging less than two (2) feet. CANOPY: "Canopy" shall mean a roofed structure constructed of fabric or other material placed as to extend outward from the building providing a protective shield for doors, windows, and other openings, supported by the building and supports extending to the ground directly under the canopy. CORNER: LOT, "Corner Lot" shall mean a lot abutting on two intersecting or intercepting streets, where the interior angle of intersection or interception does not exceed one hundred thirty five (135) degrees. NONCONFORMING SIGN OR SIGN STRUC- TURE: "Nonconforming Sign or Sign Structure" shall mean a sign or sign structure or portion thereof lawfully existing at the time this title became effective, which does not conform to all height, area, and yard regulations prescribed in the zone in which it is located. INTERPRETATIONS: In interpreting and applying the provisions of the title, the sign re- quirements contained herein are declared to be the maximum allowable for the purpose set forth.. Where this title imposes a greater restriction upon signs and the location thereof, or requires or imposes conditions other than those required or imposed by other laws, ordinances or restrictions, the provisions of this titta shall control. PART 2 DEFINITIONS SCOPE OF DEFINITIONS: In this title the terms, phrases, words, and their derivatives shall have the meanings as stated and defined in this chapter. When not consistent with the context, words used in the present tense include the future, words in the plural number include the singular number, and words in the singular number include the plural number. The word "shall" will be construed as defined in said uniform Building Code. ALTERATIONS: "Alterations" as applied to a sign means change or rearrangement in the structural parts or its design, whether by extending on a side, by increasing in area or height, or in moving from one location or position to another. The definition of sign shall also include the sign structure, supports, lighting system, and any attachments, ornaments or other features used to draw the attention of observers. SIGN, "A" FRAME: "A" Frame Sign" shall mean a temporary and or movable sign constructed with two sides attached at the top so as to allow the sign to stand in an upright position. Vertical design loads, except roof live loads, shall be assumed to be acting simultaneously with the wind or seismic toads. (e) Allowable Stresses. The design of wood, concrete, steel, or aluminum members shall conform to the requirements of Chapters 25, 26, 27 and 28 of the Building Code. Loads, both vertical and horizontal, exerted on the soil shall not produce stresses exceeding theo specified in Chapter 29 of the Building Code.
