In regional play Butler defeated Spring Run then beat Glendale twice 0 and then 20-- 0 in the title game. In the final Sean Collins hit three homers Including a grand slam, Steve Skamnes had two, and Shaler Smith hit a three run homer. Butler won the series in 1979 and placed second last year. 2 3-- JV Eight teams representing Utah, Idaho, and California will be taking part. The only local team to earn a berth is Butler which won its regional by blanking Glendale 20-- last Thursday in Midvale. 0 - - BMJE Action in the Western Boys' Baseball Association World Series will get underway Wednesday, Aug. 5 in Riverton and will continue through Saturday, Aug. 8. through Aug. 5. . It was host Glendale that dealt Brighton its first loss by a score of 1 on Friday. Brighton bounced back to edge in the Reno, Nevada first game of a double header Sunday for the Utah crew. In the second Sunday contest, Brighton was eliminated from the tourney. 7-- 7-- 6 Other Utah teams include American Fork Beehive, Logan National, Price American, Granger American, and Rose Park Boys. From California will be Santa Monica Western and from Idaho will be Northeast of Idaho Falls. Wednesday games are scheduled for 10 a.m. matching Price American and Idaho, 12:30 p.m. with Granger American vs. Logan National, 3 p.m. with Rose Park taking on Santa Monica, and 5:30 p.m. with Butler challenging American Fork. Thursday's slate will be at the same times. Friday will be a fun day for both players and fans. According to Riverton League president Leonard Smock, activities on Friday will get 'underway at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day. The highlight of the day will be a "Super Stars" competition. Lunches for the players will be provided by the host Riverton league. Play will resume on Saturday with seventh and eighth place being decided at 9 a.m., fourth and sixth at 11 : 30 a.m., third and fifth at 2 p.m. ; and the championship at 4:30p.m. "It's been a lot of work getting ready for this series, but I think it's worth it," stated Smock. "The community has really gotten behind this effort The field is in excellent shape and the city has rushed to get new rettroom facilities ready in time. We think it's going to be a great series." Smock reminds area baseball fans that there is no admission charge to games and everyone is welcome.
